Gujan Mestras

Today I opened a bank account in a foreign language.

This was quite an accomplishment for me. Especially considering I did so without any knowledge of where the bank was, without a map, and with blistered feet approaching "burst." The bank man, Julien, asked me what differences I'd noticed between La France et Les États-Unis. I said: Le Lait. The milk.

It's sold in cartons in sets of six or so and only refrigerated after opening. Hyper-pasteurized. Hyper... foreign.

More tomorrow after my first real day of work. Oh my.
